The M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) is a Machine Gun for the Commando. It is an American derivative of the Belgian Minimi, intended to provide infantry squads with a light machine gun that is more portable and simpler to maintain than preceding machine guns. It has served the U.S. military in every conflict since its inception, setting the benchmark for subsequent LMG designs.

See the article on the Squad Automatic Weapon on Wikipedia

It is the default primary weapon of the Commando. This weapon fires widely, so stay close to whoever you want to kill. It is usually a good idea to charge at the enemy while firing to get more rounds of ammo into the target. Try to use 'Ammo Feed' with it if you own the skill.

It's a large two-tone gray weapon with a green box magazine. The M249 SAW's stock is based off of the collapsing stock variant which is basically a large AR-15 style collapsible stock. The carry handle and iron sights are visible.

It can later be replaced with the First Blood, which has better stats.

  • The First Blood is superior in all aspects but one. While the First Blood has much better damage, a vastly improved fire rate, and more, it has a slower reload speed. The SAW reloads the fastest of all the magazine-fed machine guns, nearly twice as fast. Because of this, if you are planning on using other machine guns, Ammo Feed becomes even more useful.
